About the Owner

Christina Barnes has been working in the horse industry for over twenty years.  She started her career as a working student and groom at To & Fro Farm, a competitive hunter/ jumper barn in Huntington Beach, CA.   Riding and showing for various owners gave her the opportunity to learn how to get along with horses with different personalities and athletic abilities.

Under the tutelage of the late Mark Mullen and Victor Hugo-Vidal, Christina built a strong foundation and learned the value of a hard day’s work.  Grooming, braiding, clipping, doctoring, cleaning tack, and mucking out stalls were just some of the chores that would earn her lessons and show entry fees.  She will never forget the patience and generosity of her mentors and continues to instill this work ethic in her young students.

After leaving Teddy’s Christina spent four months at the T-Cross Ranch in Colorado working with horsemanship clinician Martin Black prepping colts and ranch horses for their production sale.  She continues to visit Martin and his wife Jennifer at their horsemanship school in Idaho.

Eggnog and Christina

At 16, she hired on as an instructor at the Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center teaching children and adults.   She continued riding English and training with Tracy Jacox-Baer of Windsong Farm and got her first taste of western riding working for reining trainer Rick Baer.

After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, she apprenticed for six years for National Reined Cow Horse Association hall of fame trainer Ted Robinson in Oak View, CA.   Similar skills, different discipline.  Here was a chance to put her education into practice working with young horses, assisting in the breeding program, managing herd health, billing, traveling (and loping many circles) to shows and eventually competing.

Down the Fence

Currently she resides in the beautiful Santa Ynez valley where she rides and trains horses in different disciplines for the public, teaches riding lessons and works as an administrative assistant and tour guide at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center.
